Teen charged with shootings during Wisconsin protests goes on trial in Kenosha

Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenager charged with killing two people and injuring another during demonstrations on the streets of Kenosha, Wisconsin, attends his extradition hearing in Lake County in Waukegan, Illinois, U.S.

The trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, the American teenager charged with killing two men and wounding a third with a military-style rifle during protests in Wisconsin last year, will kick off on Monday with jury selection in the politically charged case.

Lawyers from the prosecution and defense will begin probing potential jurors for their political leanings and perceived biases, with a focus on their views on issues including policing and gun rights on which the trial is expected to hinge.

“As much as the judge does not to want this to be a political trial, politics are going to run deep through this thing,” said Keith Findley, a professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Rittenhouse, 18, has emerged as a hero to some conservatives who believe in unfettered gun rights and see the shootings as justified amid the chaos that had engulfed Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Aug. 25, 2020, when he shot the three men.

The demonstrations had been sparked by the shooting of a Black man, Jacob Blake, by a white police officer, a few days earlier. They came amid nationwide protests over racism and police brutality that rattled U.S. cities last year.

The prosecution, led by Kenosha County Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger, will likely try and choose left-leaning jurors inclined to view such protests favorably and frown upon armed citizens taking to the street, legal experts said.

The defense, led by attorney Mark Richards, is expected to focus on securing a right-leaning jury, with people that back the right to bear arms, support law enforcement and likely voted for former President Donald Trump.

“The scripts are flipped on this one,” said Michael F. Hart, a criminal defense lawyer in Milwaukee, noting that the prosecution would normally be the side trying to secure jurors who view law and order as important. “That’s what makes this case unique and an interesting one to watch.”

Findley said jury selection, which could last multiple days, was particularly important in the Rittenhouse trial, given the subjective nature of the task facing jurors and because how people viewed the case tended to divide along partisan lines.

With ample video evidence available, there is little dispute over the facts and the two sides will mainly focus on convincing the jury how to interpret Wisconsin law, which says someone can use deadly force if they “reasonably believe” it necessary to prevent their own death or great bodily harm.

Rittenhouse, a resident of nearby Antioch, Illinois, is facing seven charges, including homicide in the fatal shootings of Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and attempted homicide for wounding Gaige Grosskreutz, 27.

Prosecutors are expected to argue that Rittenhouse, who says he was in Kenosha to help protect a business, was looking for violent conflict and reacted with disproportionate force.

The defense will stress that Rittenhouse feared for his life in each encounter. Video evidence shows Rosenbaum charging at Rittenhouse, Huber swinging a skateboard at him and Grosskreutz armed with a pistol when he was shot.

Singapore may see 2,000 COVID-19 deaths each year- minister

People who had visited a mall which became a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cluster, queue up for their swab tests in Singapore

Singapore could see as many 2,000 COVID-19 deaths annually over time, mainly among the elderly, but it was focused on avoiding excess mortality, a minister said on Monday, as the country battles its biggest surge in infections.

At 0.2% Singapore’s COVID-19 case fatality rate is similar to the rate of deaths from pneumonia before the pandemic struck, said Janil Puthucheary, a senior minister of state in parliament.

It is also lower than other countries where cases surged before vaccination, he said.

“But it does mean that over time, the absolute number of deaths from COVID-19 will rise despite the best possible medical care,” he said. “We could have perhaps 2,000 deaths per year from COVID-19.”

The minister did not specify for how many years that estimate might apply. Singapore had 4,000 deaths per year due to influenza and other respiratory diseases pre-pandemic, he said.

More than 80% of Singapore’s 5.45 million population has been fully vaccinated and almost all its cases are asymptomatic or mild. About 95% of those who died in the last six months were older than 60 years and 72% of those who died were not fully vaccinated.

Puthucheary said the country was trying to live with COVID-19 as endemic without excess mortality. “Though we will have deaths as a result of COVID-19, we will not see more overall deaths than we would in a normal non-COVID year.”

The city-state extended curbs to contain the spread of COVID-19 until late this month, drawing some criticism from the public.

But the prime minister’s wife Ho Ching said people should stop complaining.

“We are just spoilt kids if we keep on harping on our disappointment about dining and freedoms…let’s do our best to help, instead of wasting our energies on tantrums and bitching,” said Ho.

Bolsonaro’s security in press altercation as Brazil leader isolated at G20

Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro attends the launch of the Mining and Development Program, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, in Brasilia, Brazil

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s security detail allegedly used violence against Brazilian reporters covering his trip to Rome for the Group of 20 major economies meeting, local media reported on Sunday.

The alleged attacks against Brazilian reporters, who Bolsonaro has long accused of treating him unfairly and publishing fake news, capped a grim weekend for the far-right president. Videos from G20 events showed him as an isolated figure, who was not part of the photo taken at the Trevi fountain with world leaders. Out on the streets of Rome, he was loudly criticized for his handling of the country’s brutal pandemic, with critics calling him “genocidal.”

More than 600,000 people have died from COVID-19 in Brazil, the second highest tally in the world after the United States. Bolsonaro has questioned the severity of the virus, shunned lockdowns, sowed vaccine doubts and pushed unproven cures. A Senate panel has recommended he be indicted for nine crimes related to his handling of the pandemic, including crimes against humanity.L1N2RM342

Newspaper O Globo reported that broadcast journalist Leonardo Monteiro of TV Globo was punched in the stomach and pushed by Bolsonaro’s security after asking the president why he didn’t attend any G20 events on Sunday. A video taken by UOL journalist Jamil Chade shows chaotic scenes with security staff jostling the press and Bolsonaro supporters chanting abuse at reporters.

It was not clear if the security officers were Brazilian or Italian. O Globo reported that Italians had been given the job of providing security to Bolsonaro.

The president’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the attacks or why he was missing from the leaders’ photo. The G20 press team also did not immediately respond to requests.

“Globo vehemently condemns the aggression against its correspondent Leonardo Monteiro and other colleagues in Rome and demands a complete assessment of responsibilities,” TV Globo said in a statement.

Videos from the G20 events show Bolsonaro looking isolated.

The former army captain has seen his international support diminish since former U.S. President Donald Trump lost his re-election bid, while Bolsonaro’s skepticism toward COVID-19, vaccines and environmental concerns has won him few friends on the global stage.

In one video taken by Jamil Chade, Bolsonaro is seen striking up a conversation with Italian waiters as global leaders chat among themselves in the other part of the room.

“This video of Bolsonaro walking around alone in the G20 conference hall, while other world leaders are chatting, is painful to watch, but it adequately reflects the collapse of Brazil’s standing in the world,” Oliver Stuenkel, an international relations professor at the Getulio Vargas Foundation, a Brazilian university, tweeted.

Russia says Ukraine trying to drag it into Donbass conflict

Russia’s foreign minister accused Ukrainian leaders on Monday of trying to drag Moscow into the conflict in eastern Ukraine, following an escalation in fighting between government forces and rebels in the breakaway region.

“We observe attempts to carry out provocations, elicit some reaction from the militia and drag Russia into some kind of combat action,” Sergei Lavrov told Russia’s state television.

Russia accused Ukraine of destabilising the situation after government forces used a Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drone to strike a position controlled by Russian-backed separatists last week.

Rebels supported by Moscow have been fighting government troops in Ukraine’s Donbass region since 2014, soon after Russia seized and annexed the Crimea peninsula from Ukraine. Kyiv says at least 14,000 people have been killed.

Armed Militants kill 10 civilians in northern Burkina Faso

A view shows damaged buildings and huts at the site of an attack in the village of Solhan, in Yagha province bordering Niger, Burkina Faso

Ten people were killed in an attack in northern Burkina Faso on Monday morning, and four others were missing, a government source and a security source said.

Unidentified armed men attacked the group of civilians as they were driving their carts to market in the town of Markoye, in Burkina Faso’s Sahel reserve, the sources said.

The area, which borders Mali and Niger, is overrun by Islamist militants who wage frequent attacks despite the presence of a regional counter-terrorism force and French troops.

Burkina Faso on Monday marked the 61st anniversary of its army with a ceremony focused on the fight against terrorism.

“We will get through it together, or not at all,” said President Roch Kabore in remarks to journalists.

Islamist attacks have surged across Africa’s Sahel region, killing thousands and driving millions from their homes in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. More than 1.3 million Burkinabe have been displaced by the violence in the last two years, according to the U.N. Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

Five police officers were killed on Sunday in another attack in the north of the country, and about 15 attackers were killed in the ensuing fight, the security ministry said. read more

The state news agency also reported that two women and a baby were killed on Sunday when their cart hit an improvised land mine in the department of Ouindigui.

Barclays CEO Staley resigns after Epstein probe

A Barclays sign outside one of the bank's branches in London, Britain

Barclays (BARC.L) Chief Executive Jes Staley is leaving the bank after a dispute with British financial regulators over how he described his ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Staley will be replaced as CEO by Barclays’ head of global markets C.S. Venkatakrishnan, who on Monday pledged to continue his predecessor’s strategy.

Staley’s shock departure comes after Barclays was informed on Friday of the unpublished findings of a report by Britain’s Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulatory Authority into Staley’s characterisation of his relationship with Epstein, who killed himself in jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal charges related to sex trafficking.

“In view of those conclusions, and Mr Staley’s intention to contest them, the Board and Mr Staley have agreed that he will step down from his role as Group Chief Executive and as a director of Barclays,” the bank said.

“It should be noted that the investigation makes no findings that Mr Staley saw, or was aware of, any of Mr Epstein’s alleged crimes, which was the central question underpinning Barclays’ support for Mr Staley following the arrest of Mr Epstein in the summer of 2019.”

Barclays shares fell 2% following the announcement.

Staley dealt with Epstein during his long career at JPMorgan, where Epstein was a major private banking client until 2013.

A college dropout who styled himself as a brilliant financier, Epstein socialised in elite circles, including former and future U.S. presidents. In 2008, he was registered as a sex offender but continued to maintain ties with powerful players in business and finance.

The New York Times reported in 2019 that Epstein had referred “dozens” of wealthy clients to Staley. It also reported that Staley visited Epstein in prison when he was serving a sentence between 2008-09 for soliciting prostitution from a minor, while Bloomberg reported he visited Epstein’s private island in 2015.

Staley told reporters last February that his relationship with Epstein had “tapered off significantly” after he left JPMorgan in 2013, and that he had not seen the disgraced financier since taking over Barclays in 2015.

“I thought I knew him well, and I didn’t. I’m sure with hindsight of what we all know now, I deeply regret having had any relationship with Jeffrey Epstein,” he said at the time.

Epstein’s links with prominent men have come back to haunt some of them. Leon Black, the billionaire investor, stepped down from Apollo Global Management, the private equity firm he co-founded, earlier this year after an outside review found he had paid Epstein $158 million for tax and estate planning.

Britain’s Prince Andrew has quit royal duties over his associations with Epstein, and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has said it was a “huge mistake” to spend time with him.

The FCA and PRA said in a statement they could not comment further on the Epstein investigation, which was launched after JPMorgan (JPM.N) provided the regulators with emails between Epstein and Staley from Staley’s time as head of JPMorgan’s private bank, the Financial Times reported last year.

Staley told staff in an internal memo seen by Reuters that he did not want his ‘personal response’ to the investigations to be a distraction.

“Although I will not be with you for the next chapter of Barclays’ story, know that I will be cheering your success from the sidelines,” he said.

Staley has 28 days to formally notify the FCA that he is contesting its findings, after which an independent committee inside the watchdog will uphold or reject its conclusions, a source familiar with the process told Reuters.

If upheld, the probe passes to an independent Upper Tribunal which again can back or reject the findings, the source said, a process that could take months.

Venkatakrishnan, who followed Staley to Barclays from JPMorgan and is known as Venkat, told staff on Monday the strategy put in place by his predecessor was “the right one,” according to a separate memo also seen by Reuters.

Venkat added that he would announce changes to the organisation of the investment bank in the coming days, likely to mean filling his previous role and any other resulting vacancies, sources at the bank said.

Barclay’s share price has fallen 9% since Staley’s tenure began six years ago, a period not without controversy.

His greatest success, insiders and analysts said, was to fight off a campaign launched by activist investor Edward Bramson in 2018 to have Staley removed on the grounds that Barclays’ investment bank was underperforming and should be cut back.

Bramson sold his stake earlier this year, and the bank’s recent results have seen the investment bank perform strongly.

Also in 2018, Britain’s financial regulators and Barclays fined Staley a combined 1.1 million pounds ($1.50 million) after he tried to identify a whistleblower who sent letters criticising a Barclays employee.

Inverter Shopping 101: Where to Find the Best Inverter Battery in India?

Shopping for an inverter battery requires you to be informed and aware of the variety of battery options available in the market. Doing so is essential so you can purchase a battery that’s able to meet your power requirements and keeps serving you for years with a very low cost of ownership. Therefore, you need to have some knowledge about inverter batteries to choose the best inverter battery in India

Like every consumer, a battery is unique and has its own strong and weak points; therefore, you need to keep a few things in mind to create that perfect list of batteries that are the absolute best in their class. Additionally, it’s also important to find how and where to find the best battery, so let’s get started:

Frequency and Duration of Power Cuts

The type of battery you choose must meet your power requirements, and you should choose a battery according to the power situation in your area. Therefore, keep in mind the duration and frequency of power cuts to pick a battery that can provide adequate power.

For instance, if you face longer and fewer power cuts, a tubular battery would be the best option. However, if the duration of power cuts is erratic in nature, i.e., shorter and frequent power cuts, then you should get yourself a flat-plate while gel batteries are suitable for both situations GEL battery.

Calculate Your Load

Calculating your load requirements is critical for getting an adequately powered battery for your home. First, list down all the appliances that would be running off the auxiliary power unit and then calculate the overall load required to keep them running during power cuts.

Once you have that figured out, look for a battery with the required load capacity to handle that requirement by checking its Ah or Ampere-Hour capacity. As a rule of thumb, get a battery that’s slightly overpowered than your actual requirement so that in case you add more appliances in the future, your battery would be in a better position to handle the additional load. You can also use an online load caclulator to figure out your total load requirement before investing in an inverter battery.

Type of Battery

You can choose between GEL, tubular, and flat plate batteries, depending on your specific requirementsFor example, flat plate batteries are low-cost, require minimal maintenance, and are great for shorter and frequent power cuts.   Whereas a lead-acid tubular battery is a high-performance battery that is great for areas with longer and fewer power cuts. On the other hand, GEL batteries are maintenance-free, eco-friendly, and suitable for residential areas with frequent power cuts.

So, choose a battery that best fits your power scenario.

Now coming back to the question, where to find the best inverter battery in India? Once you are sure about your requirements, there are three ways you can do so:

Brand’s Website

If you are loyal to a specific brand or have a battery in mind that belongs to a particular brand, exploring their website is the easiest way to compare and buy batteries. Apart from being convenient, this will save you hours that would be otherwise spent browsing through hundreds of inverter batteries.

E-commerce Websites

Heading to an e-commerce site would be a great choice if you are still contemplating a battery and would rather prefer to explore products across brands. As all the major e-commerce sites feature hundreds and even sometimes even thousands of products across categories, this approach will let deep dive into the features and specifications of various inverter batteries across multiple brands.

Offline Purchase

If you are someone who likes to examine and observe products before making the purchase, then this is the best way of getting a battery for your home. Plus, visiting an offline store gives you a feeling of being in control of the situation since you can individually shortlist products by checking their build quality. Even though it’s time-consuming, sometimes offline shopping tends to be the best way of finding a product.

Luminous is known for manufacturing the best inverter battery in India across the GEL, tubular, and flat plate battery range and are renowned for their quality of service and low cost of ownership. Moreover, they have one of the widest portfolios of inverter batteries in the industry, with a plethora of options to choose from. So, if you are looking for the absolute best, all you need to do is check out their catalog, and you are good to go!

Gift Ideas for Friends Who Are Moving Away

You might find it hard to shop for going-away presents. This is true, especially if you’re going to look for one you’ll give to a close friend. You’ll want to give them something that’ll remind them of your friendship.

Giving a present to your friend is a wonderful gesture to commence the farewell. This can also help you surpass the suspicious seven-year friendship myth if you believe in that. But whatever your reason is, you need to find something meaningful for both of you.

With that in mind, here are some of the best going-away gifts you can give your friend:

Things That Establish Connections

Some friends are used to seeing each other every day. You might have that kind of friendship with your pal. In that case, it’ll be harder for you to adjust when distance separates you. What you can do is shop for presents that’ll give you two a way to communicate constantly.

If you’ve ever heard of long-distance friendship lamps, you might want to check them out. You can buy them in pairs. These lamps have Wi-Fi, so every time you touch the lamp, the other lamp will light up. Another item you can consider is a long-distance friendship locket. These lockets can store digital photos and have NFC. To view the stored pictures, your friend can scan the locket using their phones. Their phones will then display photos of your precious memories.

Stuff They Cannot Easily Lose

Giving your friends some of the most commonly lost items might not be a good present. You’ll want to provide them with something that represents your friendship with them. Something that they shouldn’t lose.

There are many things that you can give your departing friend that they won’t quickly lose. For example, you can give them a piece of furniture and have it delivered to where they’re moving. Maybe a stool or a cable-hiding table will do. If your friend has expressed that they want to adopt pets, give them a pet collar. Or you can help them adopt a pet if you’re going to go the extra mile. They will remember you every time they see these gifts. The good thing is, these gifts will always remind them of the fond memories they had with you.

Welcoming Gifts

Your friend might need some help when moving into a new place. You will be away from each other, but this doesn’t mean you cannot do something to help your friend. Give them comfort while on the adjustment period. You can gift them with a week’s supply of meal kits. With this, buying and preparing food will be one less worry while they’re fixing their new place.

You can also give them a present that represents the place where they’ll be settling in. Say a framed map of the state or a cute shirt that shows some of the city’s trademarks. Moving to a new place might be a little stressful for your friend. It’s important to let them know that you’re with them even while they’re adjusting.

Coordinated Accessories

What is a better way to celebrate a friendship than having coordinated accessories? Matching accessories give you and your friend an item you both can cherish. If your friend is moving to a place with a different time zone, gift them a watch with multiple time zones. They can effortlessly glance at their watch and see if you’re still awake for a late-night talk. You can also buy a pair of simple silicone bracelets they can wear wherever they go.

Interlocking rings will also do because rings aren’t just for couples. You can also go “full best friend” mode with a necklace. Attach pendants with your initials on them. Celebrate your bond every morning with similar coffee mugs if you both like coffee. There are many things you can buy in pairs. Give the other to your best friend before they leave town. You two might not be blood-related, but these gifts can make you both feel like you are twins by heart.

Sounds a little strange, right? But hold that thought. Appliances are one of the most practical gifts for people who are moving to another place. Help them start their mornings in their new homes with a coffee maker. You can also gift them the trendiest air fryer in the market. This can make cooking easier for them.

A portable fan can be useful if they’re moving to a place where the climate is a little humid. Is your friend moving to a college dorm? Gift them a ramen cooking machine for instant hot soup. Appliances are a part of adulthood. If they’re going to start a new life somewhere, better give them things they can actually use for their everyday lives.

Your friend leaving town might be a sad day for you both. But with these gift ideas, you can keep your bond alive—and help them cook their breakfast while they’re at it.

An Indian born is about to be executed in Singapore

Nagaenthran a/l K Dharmalingam is on death row in Singapore’s Changi prison. Nagaenthran was sentenced in 2011 for illegally importing 42 grams of diamorphine and condemned to death under the draconian Singaporean Laws.

Being diagnosed with a borderline intellectual disability, with an IQ of 69, Naga is a Singapore-Indian. He was arrested after being found with heroin strapped to his thighs. According to an official court hearing, Naga confirmed that he was forced on a gunpoint to deliver a package, and he had no idea about the involvement of any drugs in his package. During his trial, his defense shared evidence from multiple certified doctors that he suffers from intellectual disabilities that impair his rationality and ability to assess risk.

During his trial in 2019, Nagaenthran correctly and with adequate proof denied knowing the bundle’s contents strapped to his thigh and told the courtroom that he had delivered it “under pressure.”

However, the letter, added in the next slide, dated October 26, was sent to Naga’s family on behalf of the Singapore Prison Services, which runs all prisons across the island. On top of the distressing news, it also added pages detailing Singapore’s travel restrictions and pandemic entry requirements, which Naga’s family members must follow if they wish to say goodbye in person.

Singapore is a party to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and this scheduled execution of a mentally disabled person is illegal. Sadly, Singapore is determined now to go on with this killing is sickening and shocking. No civilized nation should resort to hanging the mentally disabled. We must all come together to stop this execution.

He will be hanged one week after Diwali despite being intellectually disabled. There is no proof about Naga’s malicious intent, and if this execution goes on, it is state-sponsored murder.

I know you guys are watching India Vs. New Zealand. But, I request you to take out some time and read this. A Singapore-Indian will probably spend his last Diwali as he might be executed in the next 11 days. Singapore had scheduled the execution of a mentally disabled person, who probably didn’t commit the crime he was blamed for.

Apple removes 21.5-inch Intel iMac from online store

(IANS) Tech giant Apple has taken down the 21.5-inch iMac from the online Apple Store, leaving customers with the choice of either the 24-inch iMac or the Intel-based 27-inch iMac.

A change that seemed inevitable with the introduction of the 24-inch iMac, Apple has quietly pulled from sale the 21.5-inch iMac, reports AppleInsider.

Customers visiting the online Apple Store will be able to choose from just two sizes of iMac, with the 24-inch iMac now the smallest available option in the catalog.

Apple reduced the number of storage options for the 21.5-inch iMac in March, limiting the choices to 256GB SSD and a 1TB Fusion Drive.

By April, there were reports of short supplies of the 21.5-inch model, ahead of the eventual launch of the 24-inch model.

With the first Apple Silicon model’s launch, it became only a matter of time before Apple ceased sales of the 21.5-inch iMac, as part of its shift away from Intel processors.

The takedown now leaves the 27-inch iMac as the last remaining Intel-based model on Apple’s virtual shelves.

It’s possible that even the larger model could disappear from the store within months.

Rumours claim Apple is working on a large-screen iMac similar in concept to the 24-inch iMac, one that could replace the 27-inch Intel model entirely.

Google adding 4 new Stadia Pro games in Nov

(IANS) Google is expanding the library of Stadia games by adding four Stadia Pro games for November.

November 1 will see the titles come to the $9.99 per month membership, starting with “new to Stadia Pro” Saints Row IV.

There is also Hundred Days — Winemaking Simulator ($24.99), DIRT 5 (presumably the base $59.99 edition), and Kemono Heroes ($14.99).

Google also confirmed that it is planning to launch more than 100 games to the Stadia store for its players in 2021.

In addition, Stadia is adding support for free trials to games and it doesn’t even require a Stadia account.

Google Stadia has opened up the ability to get a 30-minute free trial to its exclusive title Hello Engineer. This option allows players to try out the title without a paid Stadia Pro subscription.

Once the free trial starts, players have access to the full game with the Stadia sidebar showing a countdown timer for how long the trial lasts.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE likely to launch at CES 2022

(IANS) After several delays, South Korean tech giant Samsung is likely to launch the upcoming Galaxy S21 FE smartphone during Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022 in January.

The CES 2022 is slated to take place in Las Vegas from from January 5 to 8.

If the reports are to be believed, then the Galaxy S21 FE could go official in the initial days of CES. This contradicts previous rumours suggesting January 11, 2022 as the launch date, GizmoChina reported.

According to the report, Samsung doesn’t usually announce its smartphones at CES.

Even when the company announced its Galaxy S21 lineup in January last year, the South Korean giant hosted its own Galaxy Unpacked event a few days after CES, the report said.

However, the company showcases some of its gadgets and appliances at the Consumer Electronics Show, it added.

As for the specifications, the Galaxy S21 FEA is expected to feature a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The display holds a punch-hole design to house the 32-megapixel selfie camera. It is also expected to pack a triple camera setup and come powered by a 4,500mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging.

FB expands fight against Covid vax misinformation to include kids

(IANS) Tech giant Facebook has expanded its policies and its Covid-19 vaccination efforts to include kids shortly after the FDA authorised the emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine for children aged 5 to 11.

In the coming weeks, it will send in-feed English and Spanish reminders to users in the US that the Covid-19 vaccine is now available for kids. Those reminders will also include a link that will help users find the nearest vaccination site, Engadget reported.A

Perhaps, more importantly, it will expand its anti-vaccine misinformation policies to remove claims that Covid-19 vaccines for kids do not exist and that the vaccine for children is untested.

It will also remove any claim that Covid-19 vaccines can kill or seriously harm kids, that they are not effective for children at all, and that anything other than a Covid-19 vaccine can inoculate children against the virus.

Facebook said its fight against vaccine misinformation is part of an ongoing effort in partnership with the CDC, the WHO, and other health authorities.

It promises to keep on updating its policies and ban any new claims about the Covid-19 vaccine for children that will emerge in the future.

The website, which now operates under its parent company Meta, said it has removed more than 20 million pieces of content from Facebook and Instagram since the beginning of the pandemic.

As of August 2021, it has also banned 3,000 accounts, groups and pages for repeatedly breaking its health misinformation policies.
