I know 99% of my followers don’t follow Wrestling and might want to skip this article. However, this is way way, way bigger than any sports or sports entertainment. Please read this slowly as today, I write about a wrestler who gave his own life to save his 10-year-old son in a swimming accident at Venice Beach, California.
A larger-than-life Superstar with boundless charisma, Shad passed away on May 17, 2020. While swimming with his son, the pair got caught in a strong current in Venice Beach, Cal. In a heroic act of love, the concerned father instructed lifeguards to save his son before himself and disappeared soon after. Days later, his passing was confirmed. He was 39 years old.
Shad Gaspard was an American professional wrestler and actor. He was best known for his time with WWE, where he performed under his real name or mononymously as Shad.
Gaspard signed with World Wrestling Entertainment in 2003, where he was assigned to their developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), and was a two-time OVW Southern Tag Team Champion with JTG, as part of Cryme Tyme. In 2006, Cryme Tyme was promoted to WWE’s main roster
In 2006, the team made its debut on RAW. The team became famous for using street-level tactics on opponents before and during matches. Cryme Tyme got several opportunities for the tag team gold, but they could never win it. Cryme Tyme faced several tag teams, such as The Miz and Morrison, The World’s Greatest Tag Team, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch, and The Highlanders. In 2007, they were released from the company.
Cryme Tyme returned to WWE in 2008, but Gaspard was rereleased in 2010.
Together with JTG, Shad Gaspard won the NWA Wildside Tag Team Championship, OVW Southern Tag Team Championship, VIP Tag Team Championship, and SWF Tag Team Championship.
Outside the ring, Shad was a hero. In 2016, Shad stopped an armed robbery. He always stood up for others.
Shad’s bravery and selflessness was honored with the 2022 Warrior Award as part of the 2022 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
Kenichi Haskett is the name of the lifeguard who witnessed the accident and said that one lifeguard was trying to rescue the father and son due but unluckily Shad Gaspard got dragged down by the tide due to which they could only grab the son and take him out. Thomas Swift said that Shad was yelling save my kid, save my kid, and threw his son named Aryeh toward the lifeguard just before getting pushed down in the water. Bravery is being the only one who knows you’re afraid, but still fighting for whats right. Let’s take a second to remember Shad Gaspard’s career and his heroic act of bravery today.
