Lack of respect is disrespect, right?
So what is respect?
Most dictionaries define respect as a profound admiration for someone, but the concept of respect includes so much more than admiration. The principle of respect entails honoring a person’s needs and feelings; it also involves assigning and considering the importance to a person’s goals, desires, behaviors, and thoughts. So disrespect is technically the exact opposite of this.
Here are ten signs of disrespect to watch out for:
- Your partner doesn’t listen to you anymore.
- They don’t prioritize you anymore.
- They’re always silent around you.
- You caught them lying on more than one occasion.
- They flirt with others casually, even in your presence.
- They hurt your feelings on purpose, perhaps to repel you.
- They refuse to spend time with your friends or family.
- They have insensitive personal habits.
- They’re delaying everything, including marriage.
The most common sign of why do some relationships become disrespectful is when you notice that your partner is trying to be dominating yet silent. They want everything to be just right, and they feel that you are the one who must do everything. They are always praying you don’t mess up, and if you do, they’re ready with taunts and sarcasm.
One of the ways that you can deal with this sign of disrespect is to take a step back from the situation for a bit. Don’t sit there and fight. Instead, make sure that you think about what you want and what you would like to happen in your relationship. When you are in a place where you are willing to let go of the controlling power to your partner, you will find that things will calm down. In the meantime, you can give your partner time to cool off and do what they want to do.
Another way to deal with this type of disrespect is to make sure that you show your partner that they are still significant. Would you please not ignore them? Make sure that you give them your full attention and don’t just slip into bed with them. If you continue to ignore them, they will start to take you for granted, and disrespect will soon follow.
Give your partner some space and let them come and sit on the sidelines while you are doing what you need to do. Don’t keep them waiting for you or nit-picking on every little thing. The more time you give them to cool off the more respect, you will find for them.
Another great idea is to make sure that you don’t push your relationship to the next level. If you find yourself straining to keep it where it is then you are probably pushing too hard. If you jump the gun and insist that you are better together than you were before then you are in for a rude awakening. Take some time apart from each other and make sure that you can breathe and have some space.
When a couple first gets married, things may go smoothly. They figure out everything together and build a successful foundation that lasts. However, if something starts to come up then make sure that you address it with your partner. Don’t just assume that it will fix itself.
One reason why a relationship can fall apart is because one of the partners does not treat the other with respect. They don’t listen to them or show the proper gratitude. They act selfish and they don’t have compassion. The best way to prevent this from happening is to learn how to treat people properly.
How can you avoid falling into this bad habit? Just make sure that you don’t ignore your partner’s needs. Give them your undivided attention and listen to them when they need it. They are the ones that need you and deserve to be treated with respect. You will save your relationship from falling apart if you just learn how to have a better relationship.
