John Cena won the Elimination Chamber match in 2011 at Elimination Chamber to face The Miz at WrestleMania 27 for the World Championship. During the same time on raw, the Rock made a surprise return and agreed to host Wrestlemania to a thunderous ovation. While announcing his intention to host the granddaddy of them all, The Rock made fun of John Cena. On the February 21 episode of Raw, John Cena responded in rap form to jokes performed by The Rock.

After weeks of hilarious insults, John Cena and The Rock eventually met on the March 28, 20211 episodes of Raw. After a verbal confrontation and a brief attack by Alex Riley, and The Miz, John Cena attacked The Rock with FU (the Attitude Adjustment).

At WrestleMania 27, John Cena and The Miz fought a bad main-event to a forgettable double count-out, but The Rock restarted the match and delivered a Rock Bottom on John Cena, allowing The Miz to sneak the title. The next night on Raw after Wrestlemania, John Cena, in response to The Rock screwing him out of the world title, accepted to face him in the main event of WrestleMania 28, the first WrestleMania main event to be set up one year in advance.

The next night on Raw after Mania, Cena accepted his defeat and invited The Rock to the ring to congratulate him. However, John Cena’s call was answered instead by Brock Lesnar, who then struck Cena with an F-5.

On January 27, John Cena won his second Royal Rumble match. The Rock won the WWE title from CM Punk on the same night, and the rivalry was renewed for another famous clash.
