Excellent decision-making skills come from genuine critical thinking. All-day, w all think, but do we really think critically? And I am sure you want to know what is this critical thinking?
It is the subtle art of thinking about your thinking to make your thinking more precise, better, more defensive, and more accurate. According to the dictionary, “Critical thinking is the method of thinking particularly about an idea or subject, without letting opinions or feelings affect you. There are times we find ourselves in disputes. The outcome, whether we solved the argument successfully, is what genuinely matters. When you find yourself in a fight, you’ll either think stupidly or wisely. However, it is always good to think intelligently. Here are six ways to do that:
- Separate Facts from Random Opinions: Whenever you argue in a leadership role or merely with someone at a tea stall, you should separate facts from opinions. Random opinions from people or your own ideas may not be true. It is only evidence that will guide you to critical thinking. This way, you’ll make sound decisions and create understanding in the individuals you’re arguing with.
- Listen to understand and not respond: Listen attentively to what other people are saying. Be calm when someone is talking. It would be best if you avoided interruptions. From this talking, you’ll accumulate a lot of information that helps you in critical thinking, thus making sound decisions.
- Assumptions are not always flawed: You should focus on gathering assumptions. The beliefs you pick will significantly help you solve the argument sensibly by finding a good decision.
- Melodrama and emotions don’t have a place: When you’re in the midst of an argument, you may turn emotional. However, all kinds of emotions should be done away with to allow analytical thinking to take place. This way, you’ll make healthy decisions. Emotions are not healthy when you are in an argument. Analytical thinking needs ‘thought process without the flow of spontaneous emotions.’
- Avoid Making Hasty Conclusions: Don’t be tempted to make conclusions quickly. Give thorough revisions of the data that you have gained from the exchange. If you rush to a judgment, then the chances of making incorrect decisions are very high. Keep calm, listen carefully, analyze and only then think about conclusions to anything. Nothing happens in a jiffy.
- Recognizing the Truth: From the data you have collected, it should be able to lead you in determining the truth. Don’t perceive yourself to be correct, but rather let all the emotion-free assumptions and facts reveal the truth. You’ll make accurate decisions based on the facts and truth.
