Warm weather, pool parties, and blooming flowers are a few things I love about Summer. Want to hear what makes me cringe? My winter and fall makeup routine, which I cannot use during the summer.
Oil-based foundations, mascara, eyes shadows, and liners often evaporate after melting during the middle of the hot day. Does this mean I should stop wearing makeup altogether? Sometimes I do (it’s a pleasant reprieve for your delicate skin). But on days I wear makeup, I ensure to keep it light, stay fresh and follow these five Summer makeup tips you can read below.
The “No Makeup” Makeup Routine
Let’s start things off with a relevant cliche: less is more.
If you are wearing little to no makeup in the summer, your skin will genuinely thank you with a fresh glow come fall. Here is what I recommend: on some days, don’t wear makeup. You really don’t need makeup while picking up groceries, running errands, virtual office meetings, shopping or more. In summers, the more foundation you apply, the more you will break out even if you have normal skin. Your clogged pores would be screaming to be cleansed all day, and cooling, hydrating skincare is the way to go.
On those “Let’s be real, I have to wear makeup” days, try the routine below:
- Tinted Moisturizer: This way, you get some moisture and cover.
- Concealer: For blemishes and acne scars that you won’t be able to hide with your tinted moisturizer, concealer will help.
- Bronzer: Contour your skin with an eco-friendly natural bronzer, but only apply it to the areas where the sun naturally directly hits your skin. Many girls have profited from this simple routine (including me). I bet you will, too.
Wear Mineral Foundation
We play hard and sweat during the summer. Dirt + sweat = acne, clogged pores, and sometimes hyperpigmentation. Cream and liquid foundations usually aggravate this problem, so swap them with authentic mineral foundations. When you find mineral foundations with inorganic and natural ingredients, it won’t create harmful bacteria. It also wears extremely well in the heat.
Apply a small amount of primer and oil-free moisturizer to your face, then follow up with your authentic mineral foundation. If you’re “heavy-handed,” try to dodge that technique during the summer. We don’t want it to look cakey.
Buy SPF Moisturizers (free from oil)
I always replace my moisturizer in the summer. When looking for moisturizers on sticky, hot days, I look for two labels:
- SPF 15
- Oil Gree
Our face’s skin is prone to wrinkle, our skin is gentle, which is why we protect it with SPF during the summer. Look out for SPF 15 moisturizers, and make sure they’re free from oil
Psst: Don’t ignore applying sunblock to the rest of your skin. As a general rule, sunblock is the only thing you should use heavily during summertime.
Two Summer Mascara Tips
Oh, mascara. I am in love with you, but you make me look like a raccoon when temperatures rise.
Here’s what you do to dodge “raccoon eyes.”
- Properly curl your eyelashes to extend them and pull them away from your skin.
- Apply a clean thin layer of lovely waterproof mascara.
Replace Make-up with… YES! Coconut Oil
Go a few days without heavy makeup, and use clean coconut oil instead. Makeup experts suggest coconut oil because not only does it feed your skin, but it provides a natural glow. So right after your shower, apply a soft layer of coconut oil over your skin and go au naturale. Do I have to mention that you don’t need a moisturizer afterward? Well, you don’t. However, if you’re prone to acne skin, don’t lather your face with coconut oil and only use a few drops.
