The Jammu & Kashmir civil services cadre was formally merged with the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre on Thursday by a presidential promulgation.

A promulgation issued by President Ram Nath Kovind, said, “The members of the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service for the existing cadre of Jammu & Kashmir, shall be borne and become part of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories cadre, and all future allocations of all-India service officers for the Union territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Union territory of Ladakh shall be made to AGMUT cadre for which necessary modifications may be made in corresponding cadre allocation rules by the central government.”

The promulgation further said that officers so borne or allocated on AGMUT cadre shall function in accordance with the rules framed by the central government.

The merger of J&K cadre of civil services with the AGMUT cadre had become necessary after J&K was downgraded to a Union territory on August 5, 2019.
