Ecuador is planning to hire more than 12,000 doctors and healthcare workers to strengthen its public health system in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, President Lenin Moreno confirmed on Thursday.
Moreno announced the decision via Twitter after holding talks with healthcare professionals, representatives of the National Assembly, and Health Minister Juan Carlos Zevallos.
“Dialogue leads to responsible decisions,” the president tweeted.
Ecuador has so far registered nearly 200,000 COVID-19 infections with over 9000 confirmed deaths, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
