NYK Review of WWE NXT: October 14, 2020

Live from WWE Capitol Wrestling Centre: Orlando, Florida

Undisputed Era (Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish) (w/Kyle O’Reilly) Vs. Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan

The finishing sequence included Fish hitting a roundhouse kick and Strong hitting a rising knee to Lorcan’s face for the pinfall win in 14 minutes.

Winner: The Undisputed ERA

Match Review: 3.5/5. Great match between two experienced teams. The Undisputed Era winning this match was predictable, but that didn’t affect the match’s quality. The finishing sequence was brutal Strong coming out Strong for his team (see what I did there)

A video package hyped Ember Moon and talked about her journey to recovery.

Ashanti “Thee” Adonis vs. Jake Atlas

In the finishing sequence, Atlas got an inside cradle to win. The match went for 2 minutes.

Winner: Jake Atlas

Match Review: 1/5. Basic match. It was too short for my liking. I am happy to see Jake winning the match after losing a few in the previous weeks.

Following the match, Legado del Fantasma attacked both Adonis and Atlas, but Isaiah “Swerve” Scott came out to help run them off with chairs.

Johnny Gargano vs. Austin Theory

Gargano hit the One Final Beat DDT for the pinfall win in 14 minutes.

Winner: Johnny Gargano

Match Review: 3.5/5. Good match. Gargano is money. I am waiting to see him on the main roster. This was a heel Vs. Heel match, but that didn’t take the excitement away. Probably one of the better Austin theory matches in recent times.

No. 1 Contender’s Match: Candice LeRae Vs. Shotzi Blackheart

Indi Hartwell showed up and gave Candice brass knuckles, and Candice knocked Blackheart with the referee not seeing what Candice had in her hand. LeRae covered Blackheart for victory in 16 minutes.

Winner: Candice LeRae

Match Review: 3.75/5. A classic ‘heel’ ending to a great NXT match that I enjoyed watching. It is easy to watch such matches which are evenly paced.

Toni Storm Vs. Aliyah

Xia Li and Boa approached William Regal backstage to beg for a match so she can turn things around.

Storm executes a running hip attack, clothesline, and a Powerbomb followed by pinfall in 2 minutes.

Winner: Toni Storm

Match Review: 1/5. Storm’s first match, and she squashes her opponent decisively. I am intrigued to see what’s next in store for her. A future NXT Women’s Champion opportunity? Possibly.

Killian Dain and Drake Maverick vs. Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner (Imperium)

Barthel and Aichner hit their double team finish- forearm into a Powerbomb) to win the match in four minutes.

Winner:  Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner (Imperium)

Match Review: 2/5. Dominating performance by Marcel and Fabian Aichner.

NXT North American Championship: Damian Priest vs. Dexter Lumis

Cameron Grimes entered during the end of the match and did a Cave In double foot stomp to the apron’s chest. Priest capitalized with the South of Heaven slam for the successful pinfall in 12 minutes.

Winner: Damian Priest

Match Rating: 2.75/5. Decent match, and which exceeded my expectation.

After the match, William Regal came out to end the show by declaring Gargano will fight Priest for the North American title and LeRae will battle Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Championship.

NXT Dynamite Rating for October 14, 2020: 7.25/10

Three Stars of the Show:

  1. Shotzi Blackheart
  2. Johnny Gargano
  3. Candice LeRae
