The 2019/20 Premier League season turned out to be interesting, despite the fact that the winner of the title went out quite early. The struggle for survival and for spots in European competitions lasted until the last rounds. In addition, last season of the Premier League pleased us with a large number of goals and spectacular assists. None of this would have happened without the creative players through whom the attacks were built. Let’s talk about them in more detail now.
Emiliano Buendia
The Norwich winger has become one of the team’s leaders. The Argentinian played 36 games this season, scoring 1 goal and 7 assists. In doing so, he created 83 potential scoring chances. The footballer invested in the team no less than its more “visible” players. The winger wisely used his ability to give short, medium and long passes, constantly developing attacks of his team. The player averaged 43.5 assists per match with an accuracy above 80 per cent.
Neither Buendia nor Teemu Pukki saved Norwich from relegation from the Premier League. The Canaries finished last in the standings, losing their chances of salvation long before the end of the championship. But one season in the elite was enough for Buendia to open up and show himself. It is likely that Buendia will not stay at Norwich for a long time, although he has a contract until 2024. Many clubs will need a good winger who knows how to play with both feet and is not reluctant to play in defence as well.
James Maddison
The Leicester attacking midfielder played 31 games in the last EPL season, scoring six goals and providing three assists. We can deem it as not the highest figure for a player of his role. In addition, in 2020 the midfielder scored only one goal in Premier League matches. However, Maddison’s influence on the Foxes is quite large. Last season he created 79 chances for himself and his teammates.
In the 2019/2020 Maddison did a huge job promoting Leicester on the international arena. The Foxes slipped to secure a place at the Champions League next season, but Brandon Rodgers’ team managed to win hearts of millions. At some point, the club was considered to be a VIP party in the gambling industry, a concept which is very rare. In such cases, any team or a particular player becomes a representative for an online casino and enjoys a wide variety of privileges. There was also an attempt from Spinia to convert the team into a VIP party, that would conquer the heights and at the same time popularize the brand, but it did not materialize fully.
Maddison missed Leicester’s last six matches in the EPL, which considerably affected the team’s results. In these 6 games, the Foxes won 2 games, drew once and suffered 3 defeats. In the matches against Tottenham and Manchester United, Leicester did not score a single goal, conceding 5. These matches, in fact, deprived the team of a place in the Champions League.
The Foxes failed the resumption of the season with only two wins in nine games. The strange result, given that in the team plays the top scorer of the entire league, Jamie Vardy. The pause clearly did not benefit either Maddison or Leicester. But this is an experience that is sure to be useful for the Foxes both in the domestic championship and in European competitions.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Liverpool’s right-back needs no introduction. The guy is only 21 years old, but he is already one of the best players of the PL and is definitely included in the list of the best defenders in Europe. Moreover, Alexander-Arnold became famous primarily because of his actions in the attack. In the 2018/19 season, he provided 12 assists in the APL, which was a record among defenders. In the last campaign, he surpassed his own achievement, recording 13 assists in Premier League matches. The player added four more goals.
Alexander-Arnold is the best defender in the EPL in terms of assists. In addition, Trent created 87 potential scoring chances in the last Premier League season. In the Champions League, the defender has made only one assist, but he was very useful in almost every match. The corner against Barcelona made the guy famous all over the world, but he has not lost his head, and only gets better since then.
Jack Grealish
The Aston Villa skipper has had a very good season. Grealish played 36 games in the top flight, amassing 8 goals and 6 assists. He fulfilled his promise and helped the team to keep their place in the elite division. The player also led the club from to the League Cup final, which can be considered a good result for the team from the bottom of the standings. The Aston Villa captain has created 91 potential scoring chances all season.
Grealish is a key player in the team’s attack and is a leader of the team. Being an attacking midfielder by nature, he feels good in the position of left-winger. Jack’s importance for Aston Villa cannot be underestimated. Grealish has not missed a single EPL match since mid-November. Moreover, since then he has always played 90 minutes. 26 matches without substitutions is an impressive result for a player through whom, in fact, almost every attack of the team is built. Unsurprisingly, both Manchester clubs are interested in the player, but Aston Villa do not intend to let go of their leader so easily.
Kevin De Bruyne
The Manchester City’s attacking midfielder has had arguably the best season of his career. De Bruyne has scored 13 goals and 20 assists in 35 PL games. Firstly, it is the best figure in the Premier League for the last 10 years among midfielders in the goal-pass system. Secondly, the Belgian repeated the record of ex-Arsenal forward Thierry Henry in the number of assists in 1 season. Among other things, De Bruyne created 136 potential scoring chances in last year’s season – more than anyone in the league.
De Bruyne’s talent and ability are hard to overestimate. Right now the Belgian is the most creative player of the Premier League and the best assistant in the league. In Europe, in terms of these indicators, he also takes the first place. At the same time, the City coach Josep Guardiola is sure that the player still has the ability to grow. For example, the coach wants Kevin to score more goals. But this is Guardiola’s usual maximalism. De Bruyne and the current state of affairs has a huge impact on the Manchester City game, periodically surprising the whole world.
