KOSMC by Ankur Gupta Textile Design initiative

2020 has so far been a mess of Existential crises, Unthinkable Lifestyle Changes and Inspiring moments of Genuine Change all crashing into each other.

As the World battles to contain the corona virus pandemic, Pain of the poor labourers hit hard by the crisis cannot be explained in words. They had multiple perils to face, from grave threat of the virus to loss of Jobs, feeding their families and inability to pay house rent rendered them homeless and hungry.

While most of us reading this were safe and secure in the luxuries of our homes, binge watching Netflix, posting latest culinary on Instagram and making the most of home time with our loved ones, there were some people who were preparing for a long battle in silence, front end warriors like medics and state planners and politicos, supported by entrepreneurs assessing the situation and lack of infrastructure to fight covid. One such example is Delhi Based Designer Ankur Gupta, a NIFT and London College of Fashion Graduate, who stepped up to address shortage of masks from the starting of lockdown in India.

While most Designer studios and Factories were shut and their labourers were laid off with no notices , Ankur began producing reusable and washable cotton masks in a bid to supply them to slum dwellers, daily wage earners, vegetable vendors and poor children on street.

In his own words “Compassion and gratitude is the only way forward for any society hence holding hands of labourers is very important during this pandemic. We at KOSMC strongly believe that we have a responsibility as a Brand to use our voice and resources to advocate change.”

Retaining staff was tough so he handed out advance salaries and coached them from time to time for proper sanitization at home and at the workplace.

With His Initiative “ KOSMC ” Ankur Gupta left no stone unturned to involve and employ as many people as he could, to produce and supply masks to corona virus affected areas.

Meeting heads of PSUs, ministries to initiate ideation and collaboration.

He says the idea is to amalgamate technical knowledge and KOSMC‘s design aesthetic to make reusable masks crafted from cottons, Linens and Silks, which are not only protective but are reusable and sustainable. Now post lock down with Businesses being advised to return to work, we collaborated with Corporates in USA, UAE and Africa for customized mask Collection.

So far, the brand has delivered 100000 masks and aims to provide employment of at least 50000 work hours.
