Most foam mattress toppers have a lifespan of only 5-7 years. After that, the foam loses the capability to regain shape and slowly starts to sag. A lot of people change mattress topper after this period, which means there is quite a bit of trash out there. Instead of increasing your carbon footprints what can you do something more eco-friendly? The most opted option is to recycle the foam as it can be 100% reused. Some manufactures also take used toppers, so that’s another way.
But rather than just tossing them away I have some uncommon ideas that will transform your old foam mattress topper into something entirely new and eco-friendly.
1. Stuffing for toys: Stuff Toys
Why not? They make wonderful stuffing material for toys. Cut them into small pieces and use them to stuff toys for your kids. Also, you can make toys out of them and even sell on different eCommerce sites. That’s an entrepreneurship tip for you right there. Haha!
2. Bean bags
A bean bag can be made more convenient by filling half of it with pieces of foam. Or you can sew a new bag and fill it perfectly with foam pieces, this will give quite a decor for your living room.
Donate them to the homeless or shelter homes. Many of them do not have enough beds to shelter homeless people, donating to them would be a good thing you do for society.
4. Car seat pads
You can chop the foam and use it as stuffing for car seats. They can also be covered in fabric or leather and used as head support.
5. Wheelchair pads
Resize and give them to a person in a wheelchair. They can be used as padding and help the person sit more conveniently.
6. Halloween costume
Your old foam topper can turn beneficial during Halloween. A lot of costumes need bulges and this is an outstanding choice for that.
7. Pillows for hardwood chairs
Not satisfied sitting on your hardwood chair? Make some pillows out of your ‘to be disposed of’ topper.
8. Stuffing for Cushions
They can be used to make cushions for your kids and pets. Cut them into small pieces and stuff them inside
9. Gardening knee cushion
Gardening is an exceptional hobby but all that sowing and weeding can be a little adhesive on your knees. Your old topper will be an attractive pick to make a home-made knee cushion.
10. Pet bed
I wonder why families often ignore this. This is a great idea to reuse your old topper. Cut it and make a bed for your graceful pet. Cover it with a waterproof cover, the foam doesn’t go well with pee.
