Fashion and Flora-Fauna

Fashion is the second largest polluting industry in the world. It takes approximately 2500 litres of water to make a simple white cotton shirt. That is enough water for one person to drink for three and a half years. If a simple cotton shirt can cost us so much, wonder how much the environment has paid for our wardrobes of cotton and polyester?

Ewoke – A Conscious Fashion Label

This striking thought is what inspired the birth of Ewoke, a conscious fashion label for women. They aim to make everyday wardrobes eco-friendly, to curb climate change. Having worked with designers such as Gaurav Gupta and Shriya Som – Shruti Rawal, Founder of Ewoke, quit her 9-5 job to follow her conscience. She says, “Our efforts at Ewoke are a work in progress but it will always be you and us together, making an impact for this beautiful planet of ours.”

The miraculous waves of the ocean to the mirage of the desert, are a constant inspiration of design at Ewoke. The silhouettes are sharp, empowering and accommodating of different body shapes and sizes. Each piece thoughtfully incorporates surface ornamentation, with high tailoring standards. They work with fabrics such as hemp, tencel and recycled fabrics like recycled polyester and recycled cotton. These are consciously picked after evaluating the environmental profit and loss. All their fabrics are biodegradable or recycled. This ensures a closed loop between the natural resources and products. Even their trims like buttons are made of wood, shell or other natural materials which are hand-picked so they can naturally decompose at the end of their life span and not add to the landfills.

Making A Difference

Ewoke was founded with the vision to empower women with the clothes they wear while making a positive impact on the environment. They house an array of modern workwear like jackets, trousers, and dresses incorporating advanced pattern making. These are great for work and out of work rendezvous. They produce one sample piece of each style and take custom orders to cut down on any extra production and wastages.

To fight Covid-19, the team of Ewoke is also making hemp masks to donate to the police force. These hemp masks are reusable, anti-microbial and UV resistant. These are better for people and the planet!
