Shyness is the feeling of angst, lack of solace, or embarrassment especially when an individual is around other people. This often occurs in new scenarios or with unknown people. Shyness can be a characteristic of people who have a low self-esteem. Powerful forms of shyness are usually referred to as social anxiety or social phobia.
So, after clearing the basics, let’s directly come to the point:
How to Begin to Overcome Shyness?
The first thing that is absolutely important to overcoming shyness is the intent. You must want to, badly.
We must begin to talk to yourself about yourself in a more positive way. Instead of defining ourselves negatively we must define ourselves on positive light. Years pass by, and we just waste our nights in criticising ourselves. This kills our self-esteem and social anxiety becomes a sad reality.
Convey to yourself that:
- I am equal in dignity to anyone else.
- I have a lot to offer others.
- Others are not my enemies.
- I am smart and nice to be with.
- I can achieve anything I put my mind to.
- I am charming and capable just the way I am right now.
Many times through the day stop and say something like,
“Every day, in every way, I am becoming more comfortable speaking with people.”
Please implant this in your head- every person is a beautiful gift. There is no one like you on the planet. There has never been another like you. There will never be another like you. So treat yourself like the unique, rare, precious gift that you are.
