Full marks to Netflix for finding out Books with quirkiest of titles and converting them into exciting series and films.  I Am Not Okay With This is a coming of age comedy series on Netflix created by Jonathan Entwistle and Christly Hall which is based on the comic book of the same name by Charles Forsman. Forsman’s another graphic novel The End of the F***ing World was also developed by Netflix into a series which gained much critical acclaim and is one of the most binged shows on Netflix.

I Am Not Okay With This is basically a beginner’s guide to Stranger Things. It’s a trend these days to find stories of teens dealing with life-issues with a tinge of science fiction.  But despite being familiar in plot I Am Not Okay With This is a real fun to watch. Syd (played by Lillis) is dealing with the loss of his father and attempting to sale through the harsh reality of world. She is an introvert and all hell break loose when she realises, she has a superpower with which she can move things without actually touching them. Story progresses as she deals with her anger issues and relationships with people around her.

The best part of this high on adrenaline series is its writing (with a tone which is very similar to The End of the F***ing World minus the superpower part). The seven episodes of approximately 20 minutes each fly in just a blink- thanks to the excellent 80s like cinematography by Justin Brown and sharp editing by Yana Gorskaya and Dane McMaster. And if you are a fan of Stephen King you are in for a ride!

The only problem one might have with I Am Not Okay With This is lack of a solid thread that bind the episodes together. Conflicts are resolved conveniently and in the final episode some questions are left unanswered in the climax to make way for the second season but might irritate the hell out of few bingers. The superpower angle, though exciting at first, becomes a mere device in some of the last episodes. Hopefully this angle will be explored in the upcoming season/s.

Season 1 of I Am Not Okay With This is now streaming on Netflix
