If you are lucky enough to own a boat in Perth, there are quite a few options as to where you can take it.
For skiing, the best locations are the Swan River, Logue Brook Dam and Waroona Dam.
Rockingham Foreshore is also popular for skiing on a good day. These locations are also popular for fishing, but if you want to catch something big, you really want to head out into the ocean.
Cockburn Sound is the large body of water that covers most of the Rockingham Foreshore, Garden Island and Carnac Island. If you sit on the eastern side of the islands it is usually quite protected, and you can get some decent fish in this area.
However, if your boat is big enough to take out further then you have plenty more options.
5 Fathom Bank is a few kilometres west of Garden Island, and there are some great other reefs located within the area.
Carnac Island and Muestone usually results in some decent herring, tailor, snapper and other fish. Of course, being such a large area there is plenty of ‘nothingness’ but with an echo sounder and GPS you should have no problem finding a good location. Look for something that has uneven ground, and drift until you find a good place where the fish are biting.
If you want to go out even further, Rottnest Island is a very popular place to go. For larger boats, you can anchor for the night and sleep there. If you just want to go for a day trip then Rottnest Island is well worth a look. There are a number of reefs north of the city too; just have a look on Google maps and you will see a huge range of opportunities!
