DLP is referred to as (Digital Light Processing). This technology uses the micro-mirrors to project images from a monitor to a larger screen. How DLP Projector Works?

In DLP projectors, the image is developed by small mirrors that are laid out on a semiconductor chip. Each of the mirrors shows one or multiple pixels in the projected image. These mirrors are extremely small as that each pixel pitch may be less than 5.4µm.

How Does LCD Projectors Work?

LCD projectors are the same as most other projectors available. The main difference is the “Bulb”. Rather than using a tradition lamp, these projectors use a color combination of red, green and blue LEDs.

As already stated above that LCD projectors typically send light from a metal-halide lamp through a prism that separates light to three polysilicon panels, each one for red, blue and green components of the video signal.

The combination of open and closed pixels can produce a wide range of colors in the projected image. Metal halide lamps are used because they provide an ideal color temperature and a wide spectrum of colors.

Image Quality LCD Projectors:

LCD projectors provide a sharper image and less contrast as compared to DLP projectors. These projectors provide superior quality which can be expected.

Advantages of LCD Projectors:

  • No Rainbow Effect
  • Good lamp life
  • Low Heat Output
  • Quiet, Sharper Image on data
  • Lasts at least 10 times longer as compared to other traditional lamps.
  • Much Faster Start-Up and Shutdown as no cooldown or warm-up needed.

LCDs are so small so that they only need to semi-conduct. They operate at very lower temperatures. Also, the lamp lasts the life of the projector so you don’t have to worry about buying a new lamp.

Disadvantages of LCD Projectors:

  • More visible pixels
  • Poorer Contrast
  • Black is lighter Gray than DLP projectors
  • More parts make LCD bulkier and less portable than DLPs
  • One or more pixels turn permanently on or off


Depending upon various factors the price for DLP as well as LCD projectors can cost between 300$ to 1000$.
